New Parkland Hospital
Location: Dallas, Texas
Project Size: 2,500,000 square feet
Complexity: Electronic Security

Parkland Memorial Hospital is the public hospital for Dallas County. Our original facility opened in 1894, with the current facility opening in 1954. Today Parkland Health & Hospital System operates a 672-bed hospital, 11 primary care clinics and many outreach and educational programs. Parkland was the first Level I trauma center in Texas and is one of the busiest ERs in the country. We are home to the second largest civilian burn unit in the U.S. and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Thanks to the overwhelming 82 percent voter approval in November 2008, the new hospital is scheduled to be completed in 2014; But the importance of building a new Parkland goes beyond this expansion. It represents Parkland’s commitment to serving the residents of Dallas County for generations to come, training tomorrow’s health care providers, providing not just adequate care, but redefining public health care by building a facility that will allow us to better provide more patient-centered care in a healing environment that is second to none.

As previously mention the new Parkland Hospital is scheduled to be completed in 2014 and is currently the largest hospital construction project in the US. The new facility will encompass 2.5 million square feet with 862 new beds, adding desperately needed space in critical areas such as emergency rooms, operating rooms, and the burn and neonatal intensive care units. As the prime technology contractor which encompasses many different scopes of work, M.C. Dean is designing and installing the electronic security systems throughout the facility and as a sub-contractor to M.C.Dean, Access Technology Systems of Carrollton, Texas is providing installation labor for the entire electronic security system. All campus buildings will be connected together with a robust fiber optic cabling plant and 65 telecommunication rooms that will serve as centralized points to administer the cabling and electronic security systems. As a cohesive team M.C.Dean and Access Technology Systems will make this project a success for Dallas County and all of it’s residents.
